Management has two priorities: 1) Making sure money is made, hence upgrading and filling up apartments is their goal. "Amenities" are important in selling the place, though few residents use them. 2) If someone needs medical attention, Public Safety will be there, if alerted.

Quality of life issues are not that important, however. They tend to be ignored, despite "the rules." So you will see a lot that isn't taken care of properly, and complaints will be met with a creative excuse and a smile.

"Peace and quiet" must be a cruel joke, though this property is sold that way. There can be no peace and quiet as ALL apartments must be upgraded, which includes the installation of an AC unit below the window. Aside from the continual construction about the neighborhood, there is a new and noisy subway extension being built along East 14 st and the shut down of the L line. "Choosing" to live in NYC, now the newest mantra, is a fabrication when the talk is of ST and PCV, which was traditionally quiet, with no construction noise.

Though money was always important, it is now more important than ever. Money rules many things, as you will find.

At this point, 30 years into living here and seeing many things, I can state that Management and their reps are BS-ing us. I can't say that loudly enough: We are being BS-ed. I don't see any genuine change. Sorry.

"Tagging" Incident Confirmed at Oval Fountain


The other day there was a notice by a Stuy Town resident that graffiti was found on the Oval Fountain. I went there this morning, and while the top portion was free of any writing, the bottom portion has a different color and looked rapidly "made over" by personnel who wish to obliterate its writing. Not everything is completely obliterated and some minor writing is still evident.

This is the first time I'm aware of that graffiti has appeared on the Oval Fountain. I've found it someplace else, however.

UPDATED 7/6/16: The many, and I mean many,  "chalk" marks on the third bench, west side, near the exit at the Fountain are NOT chalk marks. I was wondering why they were continually there, and now I know: graffiti! Yes, they are only removable by sand-blasting or painting over, which would look odd as the rest of the benches are of wood. An even more flagrant instance of graffiti smudges on the Oval Fountain. Calling Rick and his signs....

The Reality

Unless there's some big surprise coming (very, very doubtful), the REBNY has won in general terms. There will be a few small victories for the crowd that's concerned about New York, but if you look around, you can see who is winning.

In Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village, the "battle" is about over, if not over. The new landlord, basically Blackstone, has won. The dogs are here to stay and their population will increase; the dog waste will increase, too. Oops, there goes an accident! Sorry about that!

Our population has also increased, by the thousands. A lot are students, which will not change; and a lot are new family tenants, which will not change either. Money, money, money. Partitions, flex apartments. As long as most tenants are white with a good sampling of Asians, we don't care. This may change in the future, but I'm not interested in that battle, and I doubt there will be one.

The old Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village is gone, never to return.

As I said, I think the best we can do is to hope for relative peace and quiet as we await, or are already into, our "golden years." If you want to continue the fight, go ahead. You are more than welcome to it, but I do think you are basically wasting your time.

Snarky and Rude Behavior

It has come to my attention that certain people (not on this blog) are contributing to the snarky and rude behavior that is exemplified on other ST/PCV blogs. We will have none of that on this blog.

Posts here are very encouraged by General Manager Rick Hayduk's moves to make signage a number one priority, and make ST/PCV a much better, if not nearly perfect, place to live through more personnel, both in front of the scenes and behind them. We appreciate the extra PS officers that walk the beat around the Oval and ticket the bicycles that are speeding through it, just as we appreciate the PS officers ticketing the dog infractions that they see. We appreciate the laundry rooms in working order all, and available to anyone should they choose, else a ticket by a friendly PS officer is issued. We appreciate all tickets, in fact, and are encouraged by the amount that's handed out, settling in a lifestyle that's commendable to all tenants.

We also appreciate Blackstone's harvesting of rules and regulations that make this a much better place than...well, we want to be positive. The guilty won't be named, but you know who they are. We appreciate the carpet rule and quiet time come the nighttime hours.

We also appreciate the lessening of a financial burden that many of our tenants had to deal with, and the lessening of "flex" apartments that are the bane of contemporary living here. It is nice to see, finally, apartments opened up to how they were truly envisioned, without those partitions that the DoB says are not additional spaces for extra tenants.

While we have had difficulties with the dog rules, we must say that the battle has been fought and won--by the dogs. So we welcome dogs into this complex, and if they are dogs from outside, what's your problem? And what's your problem with the dog piss and crap that you may see? They have to do it somewhere!

We love this place, in fact, and feel very fortunate to be here. Thank you!
